TOP MANAGEMENT TEAM COMPOSITION AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE: EXAMINING THE ROLE OF GENDER DIVERSITY

Dana Egerová, Marta Nosková

The issue of female representation in top management teams is a growing area of interest among practitioners, policymakers, and researchers around the world (Ahmadi, Nakaa, & Bouri, 2018). In particular, there has been an ongoing debate about whether gender diversity in top management teams relates to company performance, more specifically financial performance (Farag & Mallin, 2017; Hernandez-Nicolás et al., 2015). The existing body of literature suggests that top management team gender diversity has both positive and negative effects on company performance. Additionally, the results of empirical studies on this issue remain mixed (e.g., Ali & Konrad, 2017; Eger & Indruchová, 2014; Julizaerma & Sori, 2012). On the one hand, there is evidence that gender diversity in top management is associated with higher financial performance (e.g., Campbell & Mínguez-Vera, 2008; Perryman, Fernando, & Tripathy, 2016).

USE OF TIME IN SINGLE-MEMBER HOUSEHOLDS IN SLOVAKIA

Miroslava Knapková, Alena Kaščáková

Households represent one of the economic subjects entering to the market mechanism. The microeconomic theory focuses on households mostly as units of consumption, savings, partly as production units. Households participate on the side of the supply as well as on the side of the demand (Samuelson & Nordhaus, 2013; Mankiw, 1999). Households´ specific status on the supply side arises from the fact that households offer their ability to work at the labour market. When considering households on the demand side, mostly demand for goods and services that satisfied households´ needs must be included.

GENDER EQUALITY AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN SLOVAKIA

Hussam Musa, Lenka Debnárová, Zdenka Musová, Peter Krištofík

In the European environment, a major initiative for responsible business practice was introduced in the Lisbon summit in March 2000, which EU leaders agreed to make the European Union the most competitive and dynamic knowledgebased economy in the world, capable of sustained economic growth with more jobs and grater social cohesion by 2010 (Musová & Poliačiková, 2008). Consequently, the European Commission issued several documents on social responsibility of businesses in order to help integrate the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) into everyday business life. In the year 2001 the European Commission in its Green Paper published the first official definition of CSR as the “voluntary integration of social and environmental concerns of company’s commercial operations and its relationship with its stakeholders” (Horehájová & Marasová, 2008; Sopková & Raškovská, 2012; Martinčík & Polívka, 2012).
