The system of Czech higher education has changed in the last few years. The state monopoly in the higher education was ended up after a new higher education law from the year 1998. Higher education market was opened for private universities to come up there and offer Czech students a possibility of new school choice programs. Higher education as a mixed good differs significantly from most other services sector. It is its public mandate, where is typical a high degree of government involvement co-existing with private funding and commercial activities. In our paper we are analyzing the Czech higher education and compare returns on investments in private and public education sector, using the data collected on Czech university students. The private higher education system is based on paying tuition. Therefore the investments of private universities students are much higher in comparison with public schools student; but it does not mean that this investment is not reasonably paid off. The aim of our paper is to demonstrate an important position of private universities following their growth in the system and to compare return on private investment in public and private higher education, in respect of different field of studies at public and private universities.
